INFINITE MONSTER
Courage, Hope, and Resurrection in the Face
of One of America's Largest Hurricanes

Leigh Jones and Rhiannon Meyers were reporters for The Galveston County Daily News when Hurricane Ike struck in September 2008.

They rode out the storm in Galveston and spent the next year writing about the storm's aftermath. Both worked in Galveston before the storm, gaining an intimate knowledge of the city and access to diverse sources.

They also experienced the storm 's destruction personally. Ike's storm surge forced both reporters from their homes.

Leigh and Rhiannon, along with the rest of The Daily News staff, received the 2009 Star Breaking News award from The Associated Press Manager Editors for their coverage of the storm.

"This is a wonderful book, filled with stories that made me angry (all over again), made me smile, and a few that made me cry.

"The only story Leigh and Rhiannon don't tell here is their own – two young women who lost nearly all they owned to Hurricane Ike but fought on to tell the story. I could not be prouder of these two and the rest of our valiant and resourceful staff at The Daily News."
