GALVESTON — Landry’s employees and their families put Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier workers to the test Sunday as they prepare for the official opening.

Poll: How often should county officials meet?
By TJ Aulds |  | (3)
Galveston County commissioners voted to change their weekly meeting scheduled to Wednesday mornings and to only meet once every other week. Some commissioners claim the move will make county employees more productive and give them more time to work in their precincts. County Judge Mark Henry said the move could slow down county business and bill payments. What do you think?

Are COM voters getting ready for May?
By Heber Taylor |  | (16)
Some readers who said they were involved in the drive against incumbents in Tuesday’s election made a couple of interesting points.

First, some said they would try to organize a campaign to oust Sheriff Freddie Poor two years from now. That is predictable. Poor is one of the last remaining Democrats holding a countywide office.

The second point was not so predictable: Some of the same folks said the next order of business was to defeat the $86 million bond proposal that has been approved by the College of the Mainland board for the May ballot.

I catch the connection between widespread voter anger and taxes. But the jump from county government to the college was jarring.

Is it just me? Or have anyone else heard that voters in the college district are angry and organizing?
