One firefighter was taken to the hospital suffering from heat fatigue after battling a house fire off 9 Mile Road in Galveston on Tuesday. The resident and a pet escaped unharmed. The fire heavily damaged the living quarters of the home.

GALVESTON — Police made a record 24-pound codeine seizure from a mid-island residence on Friday, which is believed to be the largest confiscation of codeine in the department's history. Police charged an isle resident with three counts of possession of a controlled substance in connection with the seizure of codeine, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Texas City police had already conducted the initial search for the siblings who went missing from their grandparents house in the 2500 block of 37th Avenue at 6:30 p.m.

Smoke and fire billowed late Friday afternoon from a house in Dickinson, sending firefighters to a neighborhood on the west side of the city. The blaze destroyed the two-story brick home.

GALVESTON — Authorities from across the county gathered in Galveston to honor 29 police officers killed in the line of duty countywide since 1873. Wednesday's event was the 33rd annual Police Officers Memorial Ceremony.

GALVESTON — A bicyclist crossing Broadway was struck and killed Friday by a Galveston school bus carrying about 30 children, police and school officials said. None of the children was hurt. The accident forced police to close all three eastbound lanes of Broadway at 51st Street to investigate.
