For 36 years, Bob Renfroe was the band director at Texas City High School. His era set the standard by which all bands at the high school are measured. On Saturday he was honored by having the band hall named for him. He also got together several of his former students one last time for a tribute performance.

Galveston County Commissioners approved redistricting maps Tuesday for county commissioner precincts and for justices of the peace and constables. The maps will need to meet with approval of the U.S. Justice Department and would not take effect until January 2012.

A train derailed early Friday morning in the middle of Hitchcock, shutting down roads and, “making a big mess,” the police chief said. We were the first to report it and to have photos and video from the scene.

Jennifer Rogers and Bonnie Lem, the owners of the Bay Area website YourTownTV.com, came up with a fun way to promote the area. They gathered a bunch of folks for a lip dub to Kool and the Gang's hit "Ladies' Night."
