Housing officials answer scattered site questions

GALVESTON — Housing authority officials are working on a list of frequently asked questions about their plan to rebuild public housing on the island.

To tide over the interested, here’s a list of Galveston Housing Authority answers to questions from a homeowners association concerned about a scattered site public housing unit proposed next to them. The scattered site, 3615 83rd St., neighbors the Sand Castle Condominiums, 8228-8416 Seawall Blvd.

Housing Authority Answers

The answers are an outline of restrictions public housing residents will have to follow once they move in. It's a good list of questions I’ve continually heard brought up from the public.

Earlier this week, a packed room voiced concerns about the scattered sites at a public hearing with many asking for more information about the project.

The housing authority has proposed that at least 50 of the 569 public housing units destroyed in Hurricane Ike be rebuilt at scattered sites throughout the island.

Amanda - why are you looking past the fact that the current distribution of scattered-site housing is not "scattered"?

Simply buying homes in a bunch of lots in one area is not "scattered site"!

This primary fact makes all of these responses irrelevant!

more self serving answers. they claim they monitor the sites for upkeep and to prevent extra people living there...but we've all seen the thug videos make in Galveston public housing; what makes them think it will be different this time? Because they say so? I'm not buying it.

Ms Casanova, I co-authored the concerns/questions letter sent to the GHA. We are the Sand Castle VI Condos at 3700 83rd St, immediately across the street from the GHA 83rd St site. We're not on Seawall Blvd. Our letter was put up on the GHA website. Our response stating our position was not put up on the GHA website but we'll send you a copy.

The GHA is a body very skilled at manipulating information and people. Its banner is helping humanity. Unfortunately it appears to have little regard for collateral damage to innocent bystanders.
