Being a county resident has its privileges. Island native Tilman Fertitta is making an unusual holiday offer to storm-weary locals who probably could use a getaway.

Fertitta, CEO of Landry’s Restaurants Inc., is giving two free nights at the Golden Nugget Hotel Dec. 15-30 and Jan. 1-29 to residents of the county.

Anyone who reserves a stay between Dec. 21-30 has the added bonus of a $50 credit to eat at any of the restaurants within the Golden Nugget complex, including Grotto, Vic & Anthony’s and Lillie’s Noodle House. To make reservations, call toll free 800-634-3454 and mention the code “GALV.”

At check in, you’ll have to produce a valid Texas driver’s license with a Galveston County address.

I'm not a shill for Fertitta, but if my wife and I had not just gotten back from Las Vegas, we would be all over this deal!! The renovated Golden Nugget is a fabulous property. The crowds in Las Vegas are way down, tickets easy to get same day, and driving on the Boulavard is easy. Carpe Diem

So all I have to do is book a double occupacy room for two nights during that time and it's free? Plus I get a $50 certificate for meals? I've been looking for a reason to go to Las Vegas. Never been there. Is there any catch to this? All I have to do is pay for airfare? Is this for real?
